The Most Important Question to Ask When You’re in Pain

To understand the source of your pain, you must keep asking yourself “why”…

    1. Identify the area in pain
    2. Ask yourself “why” that pain could be occurring
    3. Once you have an answer, ask “why” again (and again) until you discover the root cause

I know it is much, much easier said than done. Let’s take a look at an example together.

Sciatica is pain in the lower back, hip, or down the back of the leg typically caused by pinching or irritation of the sciatic nerve. Why does sciatica occur? There are several reasons, but for the sake of this example, one of the main causes of sciatica is a herniated disc. This could likely be mistaken as the root cause of the sciatica. However, the question of WHY the disc herniated in the first place often goes unanswered.

When the body is imbalanced, the position of the body as a whole can cause abnormal stress to the disc, forcing it to herniate. Now the next question is, why is the body in imbalance? (Hint: the answer for this question will be different for every body because no two bodies are the same.)

Postural Alignment Therapy helps us answer the “why”…

In our 30-Minute Free Virtual Consultation, you can receive a posture and gait assessment. These assessments will help us answer “why” the body is imbalanced and show us what functional movement needs to be introduced back into the body in order to address the root cause of the pain.
